1. Give us a background of how you got into coaching XC and/or Track & Field. I ran track/cross country at Prescott High School. Still hold the school record in the 1600 and 3200. Ran the 5k and 10k at Arkansas Tech University for 2 years. 2. What inspires you to continue coaching the sport? I like to make a difference in kids. I want them to feel that someone cares about them. Not every student-athlete has a good homelife, I try to give them something to look forward to at practice. If the student-athlete just has a couple of hours break from the bad part of their life, it is worth it. 3. Give us a memory that has stuck with you through the years. The first state title that we won at Trinity Christian. It was the first title in school history. I still recall every race and event. This was a very special group of young ladies. 4. What differences have you seen in the program since you've been HC? Since coming to Lakeside, I have seen a lot of changes. Cross country had good numbers, but had a different purpose. I brought a different view to the program. We added summer workouts, strength training, and overall fitness to the program. The track program did not have a lot of numbers. Other Lakeside coaches really did not take the track program seriously. But over 4 years, our numbers are up and we are starting to have some success. Changing a culture is a long and tedious process. 5. What's your take on the direction of High School XC and/or Track & Field in Arkansas? I feel that the numbers continue to grow in our sports. I see some schools pushing XC and Track that never had programs before. But, I think we must continue to evolve with the changes that are happening in our world. We are given a platform, and we should use this platform for the betterment of not just our sport, but for all people.
